Wilson Faude is the author of Hidden History of Connecticut, published by The History Press. Other works include The Renaissance of Mark Twain’s House (Queens House, 1977); several volumes in the Images of America series on Hartford and West Hartford (Arcadia, 1994- ); The Great Hartford Picture Book (Donning & Co., 1985) and with Joan Friedland, Connecticut Firsts and Birthplace of Democracy.
Faude is the former curator of the Mark Twain house in Hartford, responsible for the scholarly restoration under the leadership of Edie Salsbury, Robert Schutz, Jared Edwards, and others. In 1977 the house was awarded “the David E. Finley Award for significant achievement in Historic Preservation in the United States by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.” In 1975 he became involved with others in starting the campaign to save Connecticut’s Old State House from demolition. From 1978 -1982 and 1985 – 2001 he served as the executive director of the landmark. He is currently the Project Historian at the Hartford History Center of the Hartford Public Library, the Archivist of the Town/City Clerk’s papers of Hartford, and a preservation consultant.
