The Big Book Club is an exciting event series that premiered on February 1-2, 2013 at the Mohegan Sun Resort in Connecticut. More than 50 renowned authors and exciting presenters converged to discuss their work including Leeza Gibbons, Brad Meltzer, Tess Gerritsen, Mary McGarry Morris, Patricia Schultz, Kristin van Ogtrop (Managing Editor of Real Simple Magazine), Amy Newmark (Publisher of Chicken Soup for the Soul) and many more. The pilot event benefited the Alzheimer’s Association.
The Big Book Club concept expands upon the traditional living room reading group where small groups of avid readers come together to meet interesting people, discuss books and taste great food and wine. This is a special event for all readers, whether you are part of a book club or not.
Due to popular demand, smaller regional events are now being scheduled throughout the upcoming year; for instance, a Big Book Club event was recently held at the Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center in Old Saybrook, CT, featuring B.A. Shapiro (The Art Forger), Brunonia Barry (The Lace Reader), Suzanne Palmieri/Hayes (The Witch of Little Italy and I’ll Be Seeing You) and Roberta Isleib aka Lucy Burdette (The Key West Food Critic Mysteries). With a Halloween theme, Psychic Medium Angelina Diana rounded out the line-up … and this time a portion of all book sales benefited the Terri Brodeur Breast Cancer Foundation.
Our next event will once again be held at the fabulous Mohegan Sun Resort on February 21-22, 2014, presented by The Mark Twain House and Museum. Escape to a fabulous resort, converge with other book lovers and meet celebrated authors. Hear presentations by Debbie Macomber, Sarah Addison Allen, PJ O’Rourke, Pete Hamill, Eloisa James, Susan Conley, Charlotte Rogan and even Dr. Ruth Westheimer! There will be panel discussions on genres including romance, biography, military, fiction, theater, travel, cooking, memoir, spiritualism, history and many other topics. Come and enjoy fun experiences including gaming, virtual travel, spa services, nightlife, shopping, and dining. The Big Book Getaway has something for everyone.
